Privacy Policy
Child Safe Michigan, an affiliate of Judson Center, respects your privacy. This policy explains what information childsafemichigan.org collects, how we use it, and the choices you have.
Who this policy covers
This policy applies to the website at childsafemichigan.org and to information you give us through it — for example, when you complete a form, ask about a program, or make a gift.
It does not cover the case records and service files we keep for children, families, foster and adoptive parents, and mentors enrolled in our programs. That information is protected by separate confidentiality rules under state and federal child welfare law, and is handled under the notices and consent forms you receive when you enroll. Information we collect
Information you give us
- Contact and inquiry forms. Your name, email address, phone number, and whatever you choose to write in the message field.
- Program interest forms — foster care, adoption, mentoring, and Holiday Wish sign-ups. The same contact details, plus any notes you add.
- Donations and event registrations. Your name, contact details, and gift information. Payment card details are entered directly into our payment provider’s secure form — see Donations below.
Information collected automatically
Like most websites, we collect limited technical information when you visit:
- IP address and approximate location, at the city or region level
- Browser and device type, screen size, and operating system
- Pages you viewed, how long you stayed, and the site or search that referred you
- Date and time of your visit
We use this to understand which pages are useful and where visitors run into trouble, not to identify you personally.
Cookies and analytics
Cookies are small files a website stores in your browser. We use them for two things:
- Essential cookies that make the site work, including remembering your preferences.
- Analytics cookies set by Google Analytics, which tell us how many people visit and which pages they read. These cookies usually have names beginning
_ga.
When you first visit, a consent banner asks which of these you are happy with, and nothing optional loads until you have chosen. You can change your mind at any time: the round privacy button that floats in the corner of every page reopens your preferences, where you can turn analytics on or off, or withdraw consent you gave earlier.
You can also control cookies in your browser settings, and you can switch off Google Analytics specifically using Google’s opt-out browser add-on. Blocking analytics cookies will not stop you from using the site.
How we use your information
- To answer your questions and follow up on inquiries about foster care, adoption, mentoring and volunteering
- To process gifts, send acknowledgements, and administer events
- To send news, event invitations and program updates, if you have asked to hear from us
- To improve the website and our communications
- To meet our legal, accreditation and reporting obligations
Donations
Gifts made on this website are processed on a secure donation form hosted by Blackbaud, our payment provider. Your card details go directly to Blackbaud and are not stored on this website. Blackbaud’s handling of that information is governed by its own privacy notice.
How we share information
We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information. We share it only in these situations:
- Service providers working on our behalf — payment processing, email delivery, website hosting and analytics. They may use your information only to provide that service to us.
- Judson Center, our parent affiliate, where it is needed to deliver a service you asked for or to administer a gift.
- When the law requires it — including our duties as a child welfare agency and mandated reporter, or in response to a lawful request.
Other sites we link to
Our pages link to services we do not control, including social media, our sponsorship materials, and the COA concern and feedback portal. Once you follow a link, that organization’s privacy policy applies, not ours.
How long we keep information
We keep website inquiries and donor records for as long as we need them for the purpose they were given, and for as long as our record-keeping, accreditation and tax obligations require. When we no longer need information, we dispose of it securely.
Security
This website is served over an encrypted connection, and we take reasonable technical and organizational steps to protect the information we hold. No website can promise perfect security, so please do not send sensitive personal information — Social Security numbers, medical details, or information about a specific child’s case — through a website form. Call us instead.
Children’s privacy
This website is written for adults: prospective foster and adoptive parents, mentors, donors and community partners. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has given us information through this website, please call (248) 353-0921 and we will delete it.
Your choices
- Email. Every message we send includes an unsubscribe link, and you can ask us to remove you at any time.
- Access and correction. You can ask what information we hold about you from this website, and ask us to correct or delete it.
- Analytics. Use the opt-out described under Cookies and analytics above.
If you live somewhere that gives you additional rights over your personal information, contact us and we will respond as applicable law requires.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we will post the revised version here and update the date at the top.
